ARTIST'S NOTE:

“During one of my first trips in New York in the age of 20 I bought art supplies at Lee’s Art Shop. Around this time I started collecting plastic bags from American shops because I was fascinated about the American lifestyle, the advertisements and billboards which I only knew from movies at this point in time. After 5 decades of being one of the leading art supply stores in town, the shop had to close down in 2016 as the old building in 220 West 57th Street was sold to an outside investor. The bag has not only become a personal souvenir for me but also stands as a remembrance symbol of places that no longer exist.” Tobi Molitor

Molitor’s works are about everyday products and traces of usage, which are often perceived in the subconscious. The focus is based on the materialism and shape of the products as well as haptics which occur by appliance. The works are based on digital photography and screen printing.
