Thank You Bag

ARTIST'S NOTE:

“This print refers to the iconic plastic bags which are part of New York City's everyday life. Also spread throughout major cities in the US, this popular bag is used by souvenir shops, market stalls and other public venues. On my first trip to New York in in the age of 20, I spend half a year in this city for an internship. At the same time I started collecting plastic bags which I post onto the apartment wall. Fascinated by the American lifestyle, which I only knew from movies back then, I was unaware of the fact that later on I will start documenting plastic bags and their traces as an art objects. “ - Tobias Molitor

Molitor’s works are about everyday products and traces of usage, which are often perceived in the subconscious. The focus is based on the materialism and shape of the products as well as haptics which occur by appliance. Thank You Bag is an homage to the ubiquitous smiley, one of the most recognizable images in popular culture.
